Industries that should be regularly monitoring workforce EMF Exposure

Medical & Healthcare

MRI & Diagnostic Imaging

Electromagnetic field monitoring is essential in hospitals and research labs. MRI scanners generate strong static and RF fields, requiring measurement to ensure staff safety and compliance with ICNIRP and CEMFAW limits. Microrad devices assess RF leakage, field homogeneity, and compliance in radiology, MRI suites, and medical research labs.

Telecoms

Mobile Networks & 5G Infrastructure

With the expansion of 4G, 5G, and high-frequency RF networks, electromagnetic exposure is a key concern for network engineers and regulators. Microrad meters ensure compliance with ICNIRP and occupational safety standards, measuring RF emissions from mobile masts, base stations, and small-cell networks to help minimise exposure for both workers and the public.

Energy

Power Lines & Electrical Infrastructure

High-voltage power lines and substations generate strong low-frequency electromagnetic fields, which can pose long-term health risks. Microrad probes measure ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) magnetic fields and assess compliance with workplace exposure limits for engineers working near transformers, switchgear, and substations.

Transport

Railways & Electrified Transport

Railways rely on high-voltage overhead lines, signalling systems, and onboard electronics, all of which produce electromagnetic fields. Microrad devices allow safety professionals to monitor RF and ELF fields around electrified railways, metro systems, and depots, ensuring compliance with railway safety standards and reducing risks to workers.

Defence & Aerospace

Radar & Communications

Military and aviation environments involve high-intensity radar, radio, and microwave signals, requiring precise measurement to prevent RF overexposure. Microrad meters support compliance assessments for radar sites, air traffic control towers, naval ships, and military testing ranges, ensuring personnel safety in high-power RF environments.

Manufacturing & Industrial Automation

Manufacturing & Robotics

Modern manufacturing facilities use induction heating, welding, and high-frequency automation systems, all of which produce intense EMF fields. Microrad probes enable safety assessments in factories, automotive plants, and robotic assembly lines, ensuring workers are aware of the risks from prolonged electromagnetic exposure.
